Hello, Bobcats.

abatement and demolition of Green Primary (the “Old High School”).

It is with mixed emotions that we bring this historic building down, but the time is upon us.

Please read on for answers to the “Top 10” questions coming to the office about this portion of the project.

1. When is demolition scheduled to begin?

Asbestos abatement will begin Monday, October 19th with demolition to start immediately after. The contracts in-place allow 45 calendar days for abatement and then 60 calendar days for demolition.

2. Who is going to do the work?

The asbestos abatement portion is being performed by O’Rourke out of Cincinnati. The demolition portion is being performed by Allard Excavation out of South Webster. Geiger Brothers (our CM-R firm) will provide oversight.

3. Are you using local workers?

We consider Allard to be local; however, asbestos abatement and demolition are very specialized tasks, especially in a building of this age and with its structural concerns. As a result, the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) will only permit contractors who meet all pre-approval requirements to work on this portion of the project. The contractors currently selected to perform this abatement and demolition work have met all of the OFCC preapproval requirements. As we move forward with the construction of the new facility, the Green Local School District will be strongly committed to the inclusion of local and highly skilled contractors as often as possible and that the budget will allow.

4. Who is paying for this demolition?

This is a shared-cost project with the State paying 71% and the District paying 29% of the cost.

5. Are you going to sell the property?

There are no plans to sell the property.

6. What are the future plans for the property?

As of the time of this update, there are no solid plans for the property. Once the new construction and demolition of the current elementary and high school are complete, we will revisit options for this site. One step at a time…

7. Can I take one last walk through the building?

Sorry, everyone. The building is not in condition for visitors.

8. What about the ballfields?

The current ballfields (main field and t-ball field) will be preserved for the foreseeable future.

9. What are you saving from the Primary to use in the new building?

We are saving the “G” from the gym floor, some of the original brick, and the “Green Township School” letters on the front of the building.

10. How can I get something from the building (desks, doors, bricks, etc.)?

We are working with our contracted groups to provide designated dates and times to make certain items available to the community. Desks and any viable loose furnishings will be available first during the asbestos abatement. Architectural items such as doors, bricks, etc. will become available later during the demolition phase. Those items will be free to the community. Dates and times will be advertised in-advance through social media (District Website and Facebook). You will be required to sign a waiver before taking any items. Please remember that this building has been closed for more than a decade. Anything inside may have been subjected to potentially hazardous debris, moisture, extreme temperature changes, etc. This situation is very different than taking items out of a building that was still in-use.

Additionally, we will have a silent auction for backboards and scoreboards from the gym. There will be a minimum bid established as per the cost of removal. The highest bid above the base minimum will be accepted. That process will be advertised in-detail before the demolition portion of the project.
